Eating well for healthier hair

Your whole body is affecting by how and what you eat, everything from your nails up to the hair on your head. This means eating a healthy and balanced diet is more important than ever. Maintaining healthy hair is all about balance and getting the right nutrients. Because hair is such a rapid growing tissue it will make demands on your body.

Everyone has probably heard that protein is good for strong healthy hair so consuming a high protein diet will keep your hair looking strong, shiny and healthy. The other nutrients required to keep hair in good condition are vitamins and minerals to nourish the tissue.

The building block of any tissue (including your hair) is protein, consuming good quality sources of protein (or even drinking a protein shake daily) has many benefits. A high protein diet will also help with weight loss as well as keeping your hair healthy. Scientists have also reported that complex carbohydrates benefit your hair as well as iron and zinc.

Phillip Kingsley says the key to healthy hair is to eat a high protein breakfast each day. When you wake up after sleep your body is lacking nutrients and energy levels are low and hair follicles are at their lowest.

High protein foods for healthy hair are:

· Beef

· Eggs or egg whites

· Fresh Salmon

· Bacon

· Cottage Cheese

As with any balanced diet a good amount of fresh fruit and veg is recommended as well as drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
